Since the late 1970s, the cinematic space has been the subject of intense discussions in feminist film theory. For a long time, Hollywood cinema was the primary focus of feminist film studies regarding spatial representation. Only gradually has research begun to address female filmmakers with the question of spaces in women's films. What perspectives open up on spaces when the illusion of depth is not followed, when they are not conquered and controlled? Spatiality that moves from distance to closeness can be appropriated in different ways. Spatiality that is recognized in its non-unity engages other forms of perception. "Women and Film 70" explores these questions from various perspectives, focusing on cinematic and non-cinematic spaces of women's work as well as women's imagination – from water as a space of imagination to the archive as a space for exploring women's film work. There is a particular interest in the relationship between public and private in films and their spaces at a time when the spaces around us have become constricted. The question of spaces of escape and migration also arises in the in-between realm of inclusion and exclusion.
