Caran d'Ache Spitzmaschine aus Metall
I have at home such a sharpening machine, which I got as a gift for my 14th birthday (28 years ago). Now I ordered a model for my children, because the machine was unattainable in terms of quality and even after 28 years of active use, the cutting roller is still sharp. Upon receipt, the machine looked visually the same as the old model I had. Then I noticed during test use the soldered paint pen holder. This is new partially plastic and the two clamps are soldered and have massive play to the side. On closer inspection, I noticed that my old model still had Made in Switzerland engraved on it. This is no longer present on the new ones. According to the website, these are also no longer manufactured in Switzerland. On the old machine, the color pen holder was all metal and the two clamps had zero play to the side, making it a high quality unit with the rest of the machine. I then went to a specialty store to check if I had gotten a Monday model, or if the loose color pen holding is like this on all new models. Unfortunately, I had to find out that this is now standard and is installed at the factory. To minimum in the specialty store understood me and waved there just that since the models are no longer Swiss Made, the quality has suffered. For me, I can not understand how Caran d'Ache takes here such a deterioration and quality reduction in purchase, because such a machine keeps with little care more the life long and the high price thus also justified. Many will probably not understand this, but who had the original machine once in the hands, it will see. I have returned the new and bought for my children a well-preserved used (Swiss Made) machine and am glad about it. It's a shame that they cut corners on the quality of the new stuff here.

If I had bought this sharpener earlier, it would have paid for itself.
Does exactly what it is supposed to.

THE classic, there is no faster, better sharpening machine

We have sharpened a whole box of around 400 colour pencils. The sharpener is solid and stable and works great. We also think it's great that you can adjust the degree of sharpening. But if a tip breaks off and gets stuck in the cutter, it's hard to get it out again. Maybe because the cutter is so sharply ground! Be careful with the sharpest tip setting the pin is quickly worn down unnecessarily because it stops too little. The suspension is very robust but very hard for children's hands to operate.

This original sharpener from Caran d'ache is a tried and tested, still brand-new super product. I can highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates quality!
