São Paulo 2019: Five artists, publishers, and philosophers sit on a rooftop in the city center and question the possibility of a theater that not only speaks for the oppressed but is itself a "Theater of the Oppressed." They wonder: How can the oppressed from the impoverished periphery of the city and from the abandoned provinces find a voice here in the center? And the German artist who invited them to this conversation asks: How can I make this conversation from the periphery of global capitalism audible in Germany, without speaking for the participants or in their place? This self-critical process leads to a reenactment of the conversation in the center of Munich, in the meeting room of the New Town Hall, where the audience is given insight into the many pressing questions that arise not only in light of the political and ecological crisis in Brazil. This volume not only presents the text of this conversation, which has taken on the form of a play, but also seeks to make what was said accessible to the German-speaking audience through a variety of annotations.
