The book "Regulating Private Employment Agencies in Ethiopia" offers a comprehensive analysis of the challenges faced by Ethiopian migrant domestic workers in the Middle East. It highlights the exploitative conditions under which these workers live and work, often without access to basic human rights or labor laws. The study examines the impact of a law enacted in Ethiopia in 2009, which is based on the ILO Convention on Private Employment Agencies. The aim of this law is to protect the rights, safety, and dignity of migrant workers by strengthening the mechanisms for monitoring and regulating private recruitment companies. The authors analyze the implementation and oversight of these regulations, as well as their application in criminal proceedings. They argue that the capacities of licensed private employment agencies are often insufficient to meet the responsibilities imposed on them, and that a shared responsibility with other sectors of society is necessary. In conclusion, it is noted that increasing the number of agencies under state supervision would benefit women employed abroad.
