Jens Heinrich examines the informal arms control approaches from the 1960s and 1980s and analytically places them in the context of Asian nuclear powers in the 21st century for the first time. His research broadens the perspective on arms control and demonstrates that informal and non-binding instruments have a range of opportunities, but also limitations, in the conflict-prone relationships of the three nuclear powers: China, India, and Pakistan. The study focuses not only on important treaties but also on the nuclear weapons policies and arsenals of these countries.
