This work deals with the development of a program for the remediation investigation of decommissioned oil refineries, based on the results of the preliminary investigation and the detailed investigation. The aim of the work is to provide scientific and technical assistance for the procedural steps in the remediation of old oil refinery sites. The content of this work, structured into site conditions, industry-specific pollutant characteristics, remediation methods, and remediation goals, offers insights for the proper assessment of contaminated sites in order to technically and economically evaluate the potential hazards posed by old oil refineries. Based on the newly gained insights, the relationships between remediation methods, pollutants, and soil-specific properties will be clarified.
