Product details
The gripping and unprecedented autobiography of Bernadette Lang, who has chosen a life without sex but with Jesus as her bridegroom. In this book, Bernadette Lang describes her journey to the consecration of virginity. As a little girl, she finds church and God boring. In Međugorje, a pilgrimage site in Bosnia and Herzegovina, she encounters God's overwhelming love for the first time as a teenager. Deep within her, she hears His gentle voice: "Do you want to belong to me?" Even though she doesn't know exactly what that means, she feels that the question touches a longing within her: the longing for pure life, for beauty and significance.
From that moment on, the question never leaves Bernadette. She tries to suppress it – the fear of having to enter a convent is too great, and the uncertainty of what her answer might entail is overwhelming. Yet, even as Bernadette repeatedly loses her heart to one young man or another, she increasingly senses that she is not called to marriage, but that Jesus wants to give her an exclusive "yes." It is only now that she learns about the state of consecrated virginity in the Catholic Church. Bernadette knows immediately: This is my calling!
While the necessary period of discernment is in full swing, she meets a young man who captures Bernadette's heart like no one before. And now? With trembling knees, she embarks on an experiment: to spend a month in his presence and thus put her calling to the test. When the four weeks are over, Bernadette confesses to the young man in tears that she must follow her long-held longing.
On August 15, 2022, Bernadette Lang receives the consecration of virginity in Salzburg Cathedral. Numerous journalists and 1,000 invited guests attend the solemn service, which is also streamed live on the internet. All major newspapers in Austria and beyond report on the event. In her book, Bernadette Lang shares her story.
