It is then that she encounters Slewfoot, a powerful spirit from antiquity, who is trying to find his own place in the world. Healer or destroyer? Protector or wild beast?

For Abitha, the outcast, Slewfoot is the only one she can turn to for help. Together, they ignite a battle between pagans and Puritans – a struggle that threatens to leave nothing but ashes and blood.
