The first documentation of Dahlem took place in 867. The first mention of Spang dates back to 1254. The locality or district of Adendorf was first documented in 1098. These documents were issued by medieval noble families, ranging from the German emperors to the Counts of Luxembourg, the noble families of Salm, von der Leyen, von der Eltz, and the knights of Dudeldorf. The founding of the Himmerod Monastery changed everything that existed before, bringing both prosperity and decline. Cistercian farms were established, but other villages became impoverished and were bought up. Spang, Dahlem, and Aldendorf existed as border towns along the Luxembourg county under the rule of the Electorate of Trier. The book describes why the initial documentations occurred and how the development of the villages began.
