Information and media technologies push the concept of humans as exclusively linguistic beings to its limits: What is considered the standard case of language? What has been overlooked so far and why? And what do the findings reveal about scientific and everyday practices of knowledge production about and with language? The contributors address various hybrid communication contexts that challenge established notions of language, such as human-machine, human-animal, or mediated interactions. Based on interactive boundary crossings, they undertake a deconstruction of language, thereby bringing together linguistics and cultural studies.
