The position of comics in the media landscape is not an easy one; the buzzwords primitiveness and triviality determine their reception - criticism is leveled at all levels. Asterix is a comic series that has enjoyed great popularity among all age groups for over half a century. Based on an examination of the linguistic design as well as the relationship between image and text in the comics, we will get to the bottom of this fact and put prejudices against the genre into perspective.
