The topic of medieval churches in the North Eifel evokes a wide range of associations. Some people think only of the churches in the larger towns, while others consider the entirety of churches in all the local districts. Experts immediately think of the well-known and researched gems. However, there are also many smaller churches and chapels about which very little is known. One of these unknown but worthwhile sacred buildings to explore is St. Hubertus in Hostel. The work includes a monograph on the chapel and a comparison with other sacred buildings in the North Eifel. It aims to provide insight into whether and to what extent the architectural development of St. Hubertus was typical and to locate it within the artistic landscape of the North Eifel. Like many other historical buildings in the Rhineland, the chapel owes its survival and current appearance to civic engagement. Therefore, the work is aimed not only at scholars such as art historians or archaeologists but also at all heritage enthusiasts.
