This work examines the effects of different forms of higher education funding. First, an analysis of the determinants of public higher education spending in Germany is conducted. Subsequently, the focus shifts to the impact of tuition fees on the behavior of individual students. The influence of these fees on the development of the number of first-year students is investigated and compared with the effects of the amount of administrative fees.
