Following the systematic innovation process, the generation of ideas begins with the determination of search fields and the subsequent idea generation. By evaluating ecological sustainability, a targeted determination of search fields is possible, and through the application of an appropriate problem-solving strategy, a systematic identification of innovation approaches can take place. This forms the basis for the development of a model for the systematic identification of innovation approaches through the evaluation of ecological sustainability. A case study is used to test the applicability of the established methodology. The developed methodology can be employed as a means to identify innovation approaches, with the evaluation method for ecological sustainability and the problem-solving strategy being selected differently based on the requirements and weighting of the evaluation criteria for each case study. This allows the methodology to be individually tailored to each organization.
