Product details

Christian Ludolf Wienbarg (1802 - 1872), a writer of the Vormärz period, fled to Helgoland after his writings were banned in Germany in 1835. The result of his one-year exile is the collection of thoughts, notes, and descriptions of his stay presented here. "My journey is an escape, and my escape is a deception. So be it. A wide current of the North Sea will roll between me and Germany; I will lead the cut-off, defiant life of an islander for months, perhaps years." (From the foreword). This is a reprint of the original edition from 1838.
