Ridiculous, that is what the first-person narrator in Dostoevsky's story is aware of. He wants to kill himself but cannot bring himself to do it. Instead, he falls asleep in an armchair in his rundown apartment and dreams himself up to a star that turns out to be a second Earth. The inhabitants there live in a paradisiacal state, just like before the Fall. However, this quickly comes to an end when the dreamer arrives. In no time, he has infected them with various evils of the human race that destroy paradise. Bruno Ganz reads Dostoevsky's philosophically fantastic tale with the necessary slightly ironic tone.
