"The Origins of Servant Leadership" is a comprehensive examination of the historical roots of the concept of servant leadership as defined by Robert K. Greenleaf in the 20th century. This work traces the development of the principles of servant leadership over a period of at least 2500 years, beginning in antiquity, particularly in Greece and Rome. Through a historical, inductive analysis of Western civilization, it demonstrates that servant leadership thrives not only in democratic institutions but also arises from the inner work that servant leaders voluntarily undertake in their lives. The concept is based on a selfless commitment to others and requires followers who are willing to follow a true servant leader. Given the current global challenges, such as nuclear threats and climate change, the need for servant leaders is considered more urgent than ever.
