The book "The Role of Participatory Arts in Social Change in Timor-Leste" by Kim Dunphy examines the role of participatory art initiatives as tools for social change in the context of international development. It addresses the challenges associated with the inadequate formulation of change theories for these initiatives, which hinders the planning and evaluation of their effectiveness. The work presents and tests three innovative models for participatory art initiatives, including two models to support planning and a holistic approach to evaluation. Through five case studies from Timor-Leste, the applicability and usefulness of these models are demonstrated. The research shows that these models can contribute to evidence-based planning approaches and effective evaluations, while the case studies reveal significant positive outcomes for the participants, particularly for the program participants.
