The present volume 'Radio "War"' comprises a collection of poems compiled by the Ukrainian author Daryna Gladun in autumn 2022 under the impression of the Russian war of aggression. The volume has already been translated into Polish and Montenegrin. Daryna Gladun (b. 1993) has already achieved a high profile in Ukraine as a poet, translator and performer. She also works as a researcher and is interested in contemporary Ukrainian literature and the expressive possibilities of performance. The artist had to leave her hometown of Butsha and currently lives in the USA. Daryna Gladun has published several collections of poetry in Ukrainian, including 'Felling a Tree' (2017), for which she was awarded the International Ukrainian-German Oles Honchar Literary Prize, and 'From the Shadow of Handsome Red Fellows' (2020), one of the best poetry collections of 2020 according to PEN Ukraine. Her latest collection 'Tomorrow There Will Be No War' (2023) was translated into Swedish, while the poetry collection 'Portrait of the Sun in the Air Raid Shelter' (2023), written together with Lesyk Panasiuk, was translated into Polish. This volume brings together poems written both before and after the outbreak of war. Although the subject matter is quite different, the poems are united by a sparse, sober language that attempts to give artistic form even to the incomprehensible. The unusual graphic realisation underlines both the reference to the medium of radio and to the process of writing itself, which becomes comprehensible through the blackening of whole words and passages.
