"Topical Issues in Deaf Education" is a scholarly book that addresses current topics in deaf education in Africa. It highlights the challenges associated with the marginalization of sign languages, as well as their acquisition and development. The book discusses attitudes towards sign languages as mediums of learning and teaching and examines the formulation and implementation of policies in deaf education. The study demonstrates that sign languages often do not receive the recognition and development they deserve as independent languages due to negative societal perceptions and inadequate educational policies. To improve this situation, the necessity of reducing societal prejudices and promoting sign languages as legitimate languages in the educational field is emphasized, supported by appropriate teaching materials and a well-founded pedagogical approach.
