The Gospel of Matthew is situated in the tension between Judaism and the world (non-Judaism), as it clearly identifies with the former while not denying the global missionary outreach of the slowly institutionalizing Christianity. On the contrary, Matthew attempts to reconcile these hardly harmonizable poles in his Gospel and to convince his predominantly Jewish readership of a cross-border mission.
