To carry out the fitting of contact lenses as quickly and accurately as possible, a well-equipped set of measuring lenses is required. The maintenance of these large sets of measuring lenses is very time-consuming. For example, cleaning a set of 500 lenses stored in solution requires about 30 working hours. For this reason, in contact lens institutes and practices with large sets of measuring lenses, rigid gas permeable contact lenses are stored dry. But is this method of storage really hygienically sound? Are there concerns regarding fitting success in terms of parameter stability and wettability? To gain certainty, this study examined materials of rigid lenses with different Dk values for parameter stability and wettability, as well as evaluated the hygienic aspect and the risk of infection from dry-stored contact lenses.
