This imperative not only pertains to the medicalization of aesthetics, which once again turns women's bodies into subjects of medical intervention. The aesthetics of smoothness also shapes the currently observable aestheticization of medicine—whether on websites, doctor review portals, or stock photographs. This work traces the visual and linguistic legitimizations of intimate surgery and engages with fundamental questions regarding the relationship between body, society, and gender. Through an innovative empirical analysis of websites as multimodal data, the author reveals how digital aesthetics of functionality shape medical practices and gendered bodies.
