Product details

In the blue hour, Uri Gershuni strolls through the English village of Lacock in rural Wiltshire, where William Henry Fox Talbot, the inventor of photography, lived in the 19th century. This is neither Gershuni's first visit to the village, nor can this excursion be called a true journey. He visited the place three years ago while searching for the origins of photography. However, this time Gershuni employs a form of travel that requires no movement, a form of travel that opens up to him while sitting in front of the computer and allows him to revisit the location, even if only virtually. A single keystroke reveals the map of the village; drag Pegman from the left corner onto the map, and you are there, in Street View, on the road leading into the village, where a white car just zooms by, then the road is empty, someone jogs along the street, there are large trees, you pass the jogger and look up into the treetops. The publication The Blue Hour showcases not only a journey through Talbot's village in 255 images but also into the depths of photographic language. The Google Street View images are presented in black and white and carefully placed on each page. The classic presentation creates a contrast to the photographs, in which all traces of their technical production are evident, and enhances the timeless quality of the book.
