The numerous studies on avant-garde art are a valuable source for historical, social, and aesthetic research, as various artists contributed to shaping the new plastic possibilities of the proposals and studies from this period. The historiographical studies on avant-garde art in Spain particularly highlight the emergence of the new woman, especially under the ideal of modernity and the avant-garde. The reason for conducting this investigation was thus the interest in avant-garde art, which is based on the justification of these female artists and intellectuals and highlights the difficulties they faced and how they overcame them. Although several female artists can be identified during this period, this study focuses on the career of Maruja Mallo (1902-1995), who, along with a group of educated and intellectual women known as Sinsombrero, integrated into this cultural context and managed to challenge the established norms of Spanish society in the early 1920s through her art.
