Theodor Wundt (1858-1929) was a Württemberg general lieutenant, mountaineer, photographer, and writer. His first journey took the nineteen-year-old lieutenant to Switzerland, where he discovered his love for the mountains. Theodor Wundt frequently traveled later on and developed a particular fondness for mountaineering since the 1880s, which led him repeatedly to the Swiss Alps, the High Tatras, and from 1887 to the Dolomites, where he initially undertook tours with the mountain guide Michael Innerkofler (Kleine Zinne), but later climbed alone (Monte Cristallo, Piz Popena, Cadinspitzen, and other mountains that were considered difficult or unclimbable at the time, causing the valley residents to often doubt his climbs or declare him insane). On his honeymoon in 1894, he and his wife, the Englishwoman Maud Walters, ascended the Matterhorn, 29 years after the first climber Whymper. Wundt was one of the pioneers of winter mountaineering and climbed mountains such as the Mädelegabel, Zugspitze, and the Grosse and Kleine Zinne in winter, which is still no small feat today. Wundt published accounts of his mountain tours, including at least one book co-authored with his wife, and was among the pioneers of high-altitude photography. The volume is illustrated with 102 black-and-white images. It is a reprint of the original edition from 1895.
