Life is expensive, and it gets more expensive as you grow older. When you eventually end up in a senior residence, your savings melt away like butter in the microwave. The heirs don’t like that. A boy once pulled a tuft of grass while his mother pushed her elderly father in a wheelchair through the park and handed it to Grandpa. "What’s that supposed to mean?" the mother exclaimed. "You and Dad just said last night that Grandpa should finally kick the bucket!" So, dying earlier does actually save a lot of money. However, then you have nothing left of the savings. Chief Inspector Maurice Elsterhorst and his older colleague Lothar Velmond, who work in the specially established Murder Commission II for our crime stories, have developed a certain routine in investigating mysterious deaths at the Sancta Agatha senior residence. They are supported by the attractive inspector Uta Möbius and the black Labrador Rinaldo. By the way, Elsterhorst and Velmond don’t particularly like each other. Elsterhorst, the chief inspector created by my co-author Ingrid Schumacher, is a freeze-dried bachelor who only cares about his Rinaldo. My Lothar loves life. Nothing human is foreign to him.
