Preserving and living the original - this is a trend that is also noticeable in the Weinviertel. Typical, old Weinviertel dishes are an important part of regional identity. But there is a danger that they will be forgotten. The book Aufkochen is dedicated to old Weinviertel dishes and their stories, making them accessible to all and preserving them for younger generations. This book is based on visits to the nursing homes in Mistelbach, Poysdorf, Wolkersdorf and Zistersdorf. The residents' stories about their lives, their stories and memories provided the idea for the design of this book. These discussions were accompanied by Weinviertel seminar farmers who assisted in the preparation of the recipes and recreated the dishes presented in the book using their cooking and baking skills. The volume is divided into three sections and contains a large number of magnificently illustrated recipes. Food in the course of the year: Whether New Year, Carnival, Easter, Kirtag or Advent, typical dishes for all seasons are presented. Food in the circle of life: This section contains traditional dishes for birth and baptism, birthday and name day, wedding as well as funeral and funeral feast. Eating in everyday life: This section documents regional dishes for vegetables and herbs, fruit, farm animals/slaughter, hunting and fishing, cereals or grain and bread, potatoes, sugar and honey, and wine. For each section there is a lot of historical and folkloristic information on the customs in the eastern Weinviertel by Wolfgang Galler.
