The fact that the topic of sexual orientation leads to sometimes heated societal discussions and very controversial expressions of opinion is not a phenomenon of recent times. What is relatively new, however, is that the content of the discussion has changed. It is no longer (just) about who someone shares a bed with, but primarily about with whom someone shares their heart. In addition to the topic of partnership and its legal recognition, the desire for family is increasingly being addressed. The public discourse revolves around the question of whether same-sex couples can also take on parental responsibilities and therefore should enjoy the same rights as opposite-sex couples. In 2006, the city of Vienna made a statement for equality and explicitly addressed same-sex couples as foster parents in its poster campaign. This book takes an analytical and theoretically grounded look at this and explores the background and impact of this campaign.
