Based on 28 expert interviews with members of five different operational organizations, Johannes Müller develops a conceptual framework for the transfer of operational knowledge. It becomes clear that, despite predominantly hierarchical structures, informal forms of knowledge transfer are particularly significant for these organizations. Beyond the theoretical insights, the author provides specific design recommendations for operational organizations that enable their members to manage the transfer of operational knowledge effectively.
