Author's Note
Adèle Geras, born in 1944 in Jerusalem, grew up in Nigeria, Borneo, and Gambia. She later studied French and Spanish in Brighton and Oxford. She worked as an actress and singer before becoming a French teacher. Since 1976, she has been a freelance writer with numerous awards and a nomination for the Whitbread Children's Book Award in 2000. The author lives with her family in Manchester.
