The Pensenbuch is considered an alternative form of performance assessment that is currently only permitted as part of a school trial. Performance assessments serve both societal and educational functions. These include the selection function, the socialization function, the legitimization function, the control and orientation function, the forecasting function, the information and feedback function, the disciplinary function, as well as the motivation and incentive function. But are the functions of performance assessment fulfilled from the parents' perspective through the Pensenbuch? The analysis of interviews with six parents shows that, from their viewpoint, the functions of performance assessment through the Pensenbuch are largely fulfilled.
