Product details

Sigrid is a doctor living in Oslo, in the big city. She just wanted to get away from the village where she grew up and had to witness her father's physical decline while she was pregnant with Mia. Mia's father, Jens, also a doctor, left her before the birth. With the down-to-earth Aslak, she begins a new life. But then Jens suddenly appears and wants to spend time with Mia, which throws Sigrid off balance with her conflicting feelings towards him. Even more paralyzing is the news that her mother Anne has cancer. The relationship with her is anything but simple. Neither Sigrid nor Anne can find the words to express their feelings. Too much has happened in the past, and Sigrid has often felt neglected and overlooked by her mother. Thus, both daughter and mother initially suppress their spontaneous impulses and seem helplessly face the impending catastrophe. Will they find a way out, or will they fail each other once again? Helga Flatland portrays this family dynamic in a straightforward manner and from varying perspectives, as seen in her previous novel "A Modern Family." She empathizes with her characters while also respecting their freedoms. And above all: She does not judge. Because it is not about who was to blame for what and when, but solely about this: How do we move forward?.
