1. Dölling & Galitz Melbye

For his contemporaries, the Danish painter Anton Melbye (1818 - 1875) was a celebrity in Europe. His fame was due to his unique seascapes: emotionally charged marine landscapes populated with sailing and steam ships that oscillate between naturalism and symbolism. Light-filled charcoal drawings further reveal the painter of the sea as a virtuoso landscape artist. Melbye studied in Copenhagen under Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg during the Golden Age of Danish painting. In Paris, he developed his own painting style, and along the Bosporus, he found his intense colors. The port city of Hamburg had a particularly large number of passionate collectors, and a significant portion of his oeuvre can still be found in private collections and museums in Hamburg. Recently, Melbye's work has been rediscovered. This first illustrated book on Melbye introduces an artist whose life and work span across Europe. A large portion of the images is published here for the first time.

2. Dölling & Galitz Turm und Tunnel

For over five decades, architect Friedhelm Grundmann (1925 - 2015) designed churches and subway stations - a unique achievement in post-war modernism in Germany. In 1961, it was a transportation project that made him known in Hamburg: the Lübecker Strasse subway station with its elegant concrete dome. In northern Germany, he received prominent commissions in various office partnerships, ranging from striking new buildings like the Simeon Church in Hamburg-Hamm (1966) to the reorganization of the medieval cathedrals in Lübeck (1973) and Greifswald (1989). He regularly returned to Hamburg's transportation projects, most recently for the renovation of the post-war modern bus and subway station Wandsbek-Markt (2005). This richly illustrated book comprehensively honors Grundmann's work for the first time. The common thread is the comparison of the two seemingly contradictory building types: church and subway. While church communities focused more on quality craftsmanship, the elevated railway allowed him room for innovative technical solutions. In both cases, Grundmann was committed to the needs of people and a measured modernity. A project of the University of Hamburg and the online magazine moderneREGIONAL.

3. Dölling & Galitz Von der Festung bis Planten un Blomen. Die Hamburger Wallanlagen.

For over 200 years, Hamburg's ramparts stood for the defences of a city that had never been conquered. With the defortification and redesign of the ramparts, Hamburg received its first large public garden. The eastern section of the ramparts was used by the railway and by educational and cultural institutions. The western section was shaped in particular by exhibitions such as the Planten un Blomen Low German Garden Show of 1935 and the subsequent International Horticultural Exhibitions. The cityscape still impressively reflects over 400 years of history. And so the Wallring, with its remarkable architecture, works of art and high-quality garden architecture, still stands for the identity of the city and for "der Statt Macht, vnd der Bürger Reichthum". The book shows numerous facets of the centuries-long history of the ramparts from a horticultural, architectural, urban planning, art historical and botanical perspective - opulently illustrated with partly unpublished material and on a high professional level. A standard work on the subject of "How Hamburg became what it is".

4. Dölling & Galitz Plan B Anstiftung zum Widerstand

In search of the conditions for a good life, four critical young people engage in a conversation with their former lecturer. They cannot agree with the judgment of critical minds that the reason for the prevention of a good life lies in the folly of neoliberal madness. Whether it’s unconditional basic income, redistribution, environmental, animal, and climate protection, Fridays for Future, or public health – with every topic, they ask themselves the question: Can capitalist economic growth be the key to a carefree, good life for everyone? Step by step, their discussion leads them to the principles that have functionalized an entire society from cradle to grave for growth. They encounter numerous contradictions that deliver a devastating verdict on the prevailing democracies and their promises of prosperity for all, which are nowhere visible in the world. For those who believe that the future must begin now, this polemic may be of great benefit.
