You can also use the alarm clock without batteries, in which case it only works with the mains adapter supplied. In this case, the display is permanently illuminated and the brightness can be set to one of three levels. Without the mains adapter and only with batteries, the display remains invisible and is only activated briefly by sound or touch. A permanent mains connection is therefore required for operation without batteries.
