Can the Philips Hue Ensis also be connected via an existing universal rotary dimmer? Or would the existing rotary dimmer have to be removed first?

Normal dimmers do not work because a transformer is built into the lamp to keep the current constant.

You need a Hue-compatible switch or you leave the light on and use a Hue dimmer switch. After a short time, we converted everything to Feller 4-way rocker switches. Hue is simply too convenient.
