How does the lamp react if it is connected to a conventional on/off switch, is the previous state restored when it is switched on and is there a switch-on delay? Do I need additional Philips products to configure the colour/brightness once or is a smartphone sufficient?

This lamp always needs a Philips Hue Bridge. It cannot be controlled directly with a smartphone alone. The switch-on delay is minimal, I would estimate less than 1 second, but I haven't measured it exactly.
You can connect the lamp to a normal on/off switch. Hue lamps light up after switching on, e.g. also when the voltage is restored after a power failure.
