The metal feeding bowl fits perfectly in a plastic holder, which docks neatly magnetically to the station. The tray can therefore be easily removed for cleaning and I see no reason to replace it. Another very flat tray could be placed underneath, but this would not be fixed and it simply makes little sense. The device only works to a limited extent on battery power, which is effectively only intended for bridging power failures, feeding simply continues. The Wi-Fi, for example, is then deactivated, i.e. no access via app etc. The battery would probably not last very long either.
