Sempé's risotto serving spoon emerged as the winner in a competition organised by Domus magazine, which focused on this particular type of spoon. Alberto Alessi and Alessandro Mendini were members of the competition jury.
This is how the designer describes the design: "I wanted to create a spoon that was delicate and round and just as simple and cheerful as a successful risotto. Seen from the front: two round shapes, the spoon and the handle, are joined by a narrower neck that provides lightness and creates a juxtaposition of curves and lines. From the side: you can see that the spoon, which has a curve at the transition to the handle, has a tapering border. The spoon becomes flatter towards the front, almost like a blade, to cope with even the most compact risottos. Since I love risotto, I took inspiration from the design of this spoon.
