To start the grinding process, simply press and hold the button on the top and release it when you are done grinding. With the dial at the bottom of the mill, you can adjust the grind size from fine to coarse, depending on what you are preparing. To refill the mill, simply turn the acrylic middle section and the steel lid so that the lock symbol aligns with the unlock symbol. Remove the lid, fill the mill with whole peppercorns or coarse salt, and replace the lid, ensuring that the lock symbols match. Each mill requires 4 x AAA batteries (not included). Due to the high power demand when grinding salt and pepper, alkaline batteries are recommended instead of zinc batteries. If your mill is difficult to grind, especially at a fine setting, try cleaning the grinding mechanism. Turn the mill upside down, set the dial to the coarsest setting, and twist the top. This will release any large peppercorns or salt crystals that may have become lodged. Turn the dial back to your desired setting. It is advisable not to put salt in your pepper mill, as this can corrode the carbon steel mechanism.
