Cast iron is ideal for mortars due to its rough surface, high weight and material properties. The square Skeppshult Design Mortar was created by the designers Carl & Carl, who have also designed many other Skeppshult products.

In the Skeppshult mortars, both the mortar and the pestle are made of cast iron. The handle of the pestle is made of walnut. The mortar stands on 4 small, soft feet to protect the floor.
