It has infrared and a rotating laser sensor, so it can navigate very well. It doesn't hit furniture. It recognises them. But it can't always detect smaller objects on the floor. The hoover also has a mechanical bumper that stops the hoover immediately when activated. This prevents damage, but I would keep the expensive China vase behind a virtual wall away from the hoover.
