It's called dynamic pricing, and it's a popular mechanism for responding automatically to competition or market conditions. Sometimes you are lucky and sometimes you are not.

I noticed that too. I was hoping that the robot would be on sale on Black Friday or Cyber Monday. I would have taken it for 388 in the end, but if the price goes up to 440 in the meantime, that's no fun either.
