I use the plate on the rectangular induction hob, which is as big as the plate. With a smaller or round induction hob, you would have to adapt the food to the area of the induction hob. The plate will certainly get hot outside the induction field because it conducts the heat, but probably not hot enough for even frying over the whole plate.
