Gustavsberg has been producing porcelain since 1825. However, the history of Gustavsberg dates back to the 17th century when Gustav Gabrielsson Oxenstierna and his wife, Maria de la Gardie, established a brick kiln in the Farsta Bay. In honor of Oxenstierna, the Farsta Bay was later renamed Gustavsberg. It was not until 1825 that Gustavsberg became known for its porcelain production.
