When searching for a short circuit in an electronic circuit, a multimeter is typically used. However, it is not well-suited for pinpointing the exact location of the short circuit. The KD100 short circuit detector is specifically designed for this purpose – it allows for easy localization of a short circuit through optical and acoustic signaling.

In modern circuits, which are densely packed and built with very small components, it can be challenging to locate the actual spot of a short circuit, whether it is a component defect or a solder bridge, using conventional methods. However, the KD100 is based on the principle of relative resistance measurement, which can detect even the smallest changes in resistance in the range of just a few milliohms. When the measurement begins, the output resistance is stored. During the subsequent search, one can determine whether they are getting closer to or further away from the location of the short circuit based on the displayed change in resistance.

Measurements can be taken in de-energized circuits, featuring a combined dynamic trend display with RGB LED and an acoustic signal that varies in pitch. It can also be used as a standard continuity tester. Additional measurement range: 10 mΩ – 3 Ω. Battery-operated with an automatic shut-off function.
