The handle is longer than the original Gator, which puts more strain on the stainless steel head. The handle is made of fiberglass-reinforced nylon with a Gator coating from Gerber. It provides a better and more comfortable grip in wet and muddy conditions. Additionally, the handle features a coarse-toothed handsaw for cutting branches and brush, which is held in place by a magnet.
