For batteries that contain more than 0.0005 mass percent mercury, more than 0.002 mass percent cadmium, or more than 0.004 mass percent lead, the chemical designations of the respective hazardous substance are located under the trash can symbol. The chemical designations have the following meanings: Pb: Battery contains lead, Cd: Battery contains cadmium, Hg: Battery contains mercury.
