Application area: Emergency ladder systems are structural installations that allow self-rescuing individuals to escape in case of danger or for rescuing others. Regardless of the height of ascent, climbing protection is not permissible as fall protection. When planning emergency ladder systems, especially the access safety measures, the responsible fire safety authority must be involved. Proof of the load-bearing capacity of the ground must be verified and approved by a qualified expert in structural stability for each construction project. At unsecured exit points, railings must be installed on both sides of the ladder or directed towards the exit point. The gap at the exit must not exceed 75 mm. For potential fall heights starting from 1 m, safety devices are required at entry, exit, and crossover points. For lateral crossovers, the ladder sections must be raised higher.

Starting measurement: Distance from the entry level to the first rung 100 – 400 mm; the top rung flush with the entry level. The gap dimensions between the ladder system and the railing must not exceed 120 mm. Release mechanism: Emergency descent ladder via foot-operated lever or safety barrier. A vertically movable ladder section is only permitted at the lowest ladder segment. This extendable ladder section must automatically lower itself before being stepped on. In the lowered state, the rungs of the extended ladder section and the lowest ladder segment must be at the same height. Access platforms must cover the entire access opening (e.g., window width) as access options on emergency ladder systems. The vertical overlap of consecutive ladder runs must be at least 1 m.
