Product details

These exotic palm trees are a real eye-catcher in your garden or on your balcony. They require little care, are hardy and very robust. The palm mix consists of three different palms:

  • Chamaerops humilis (European dwarf date palm)
  • Phoenix canariensis (Canary Island date palm)
  • Washingtonia robusta (Mexican fan palm)

Chamaerops humilis (European dwarf date palm)
Chamaerops humilis is one of the most common palm species in northern Europe and also the only palm native to Europe. This palm is therefore also known as the European fan palm. In southern European countries, Chamaerops can grow up to 4 metres high in the wild and form dozens of trunks. It can withstand considerable frost and strong winds if it is kept dry in winter. The growth habit of the palm is stocky and therefore has a bushy appearance. Chamaerops humilis forms several cuttings in addition to its own trunk, so that the palm eventually also grows in width. The Chamaerops is hardy down to -13°C.

Phoenix canariensis (Canary Island date palm)
The Phoenix canariensis originally comes from the Canary Islands. There are many different Phoenix species, of which the Canariensis is the best known and most common. Nowadays, the Phoenix canariensis can be found in all tropical climate zones. In Spain and Italy, these palms are often used for planting along public roads. This palm is moderately hardy and can tolerate up to 5 degrees of frost.

Washingtonia robusta (Mexican fan palm)
The Washingtonia robusta originates from the south of the United States and Mexico. The Washingtonia is also known as the Mexican fan palm. This palm owes its name to the first President of the United States, George Washington. In California it is also known as the petticoat palm because the dead leaves hang around the trunk of the palm like a skirt.
